Blogkeeping: Portfolio Dresses and Pinterest

Chris and I are delaying sharing your Portfolio dresses in order to allow people a little more time to finish. Please add your dress to the Flickr pool, and we will feature your dresses a week from today, Friday, May 13th.

I've been taking a little blogging break this week. The sew along last week was exhausting. I was near the edge of blog burnout, so the rest has been good because I am coming back from the brink :) I just needed a little sleep and a little time away from the computer. Posting will probably be light again next week as I prepare for the birthday event the following week. I've been having fun creating some things behind the scenes that you'll get to see during the event. Can't wait!

Changing gears a little... Have you heard of Pinterest? It's only the best thing since sliced bread. Seriously. Pinterest is a place to "pin" your bookmarks so you have a visual reminder of what they are, not just a list of text links. This is the official Pinterest description of itself, "Think of Pinterest as a virtual pinboard — a place where you can create collections of things you love and "follow" collections created by people with great taste." I am not on Facebook and I don't know a Tweet from a hole in the wall, but I can't get enough of Pinterest. It's dangerous. The first night I got on I was up until 3am. If you're interested in checking out my pins, click HERE. There's also a link in my sidebar. If you are interested in staying up all night joining Pinterest, you may need an invitation because it is still in beta mode. Send me an email, and I'll hook you up. (Thanks, Caroline, for my invite!)

Finally, I want to thank Alana (a.k.a. Mrs. Taylor) from Taylor Made Home for passing the Kreativ Blogger Award on to me. Thanks, Alana!

Have a Happy Mother's Day!

Portfolio Sew Along and Point of View Reminders

Don't forget that the Portfolio Dress Sew Along, hosted by myself and Chris from Pickup Some Creativity, starts next Monday, April 25th. I can't wait to get started!

I decided to go with some Lisette fabric for my dress...

It's cotton lawn and has a really nice weight to it. I'm going with white for the neckline.

Grab a button, choose your fabric, and get ready to sew along next Monday!

Another reminder... don't forget that the April Point of View collage reveal and link party will be this Friday, April 22nd. This month's theme is spring, so get those spring projects ready to link up on Friday!

Also, here's a little sneak peek at something I've been working on. I don't have the kinks worked out just yet, so it may be a few weeks before I show it to you...

And since this post is turning into quite a hodgepodge of information, I'd also like to thank Mary Ann from Love This Bloggin for awarding me the Versatile Blogger Award. Thanks so much, Mary Ann!

Mom's Penguin and Some Awards

Remember back in December when I shared Lucy's soda bottle penguins in one of my Cutest Thing Ever posts? Well, my mother decided that she needed to make one, and here she is...

Pretty cute, huh? She made hers smaller... she used 20 oz soda bottles instead of 2 liter bottles.

And my mother is a big knitter, so she whipped up a little hat and scarf instead of painting them on.

I love this little gal. She currently resides on the mantel in my living room.

I also wanted to mention that I received a couple of blog awards over the past few weeks. I was passed the Stylish Blogger Award by Homemaking Honeys. Stop over and check out their Holiday Ideas page... it's chock full of good stuff. I was also passed the Versatile Blogger Award by The Littlest Crafter. Make sure you check out K's craft date idea... fantastic! Thank you ladies!

There is something really neat coming up here on my little old blog. I have to keep it a secret for now, but you'll find out soon enough :) Thanks for stopping by today!

Some Awards and Some Random Stuff About Me

I'd like to take a moment to thank some lovely ladies for passing on the Stylish Blogger Award to me recently. It was passed to me twice over the last couple of weeks...

First, Jackie and Jodi over at Sisters in Stitches. Make sure you check out their beautiful quilts and great sewing projects!

Second, Jen from Frame Fanatic. Stop over at her blog to see her adorable painted and embellished frame projects!

Thanks so much ladies! I'm honored. Of course there are rules that go along with these awards, but since there is no award police, I'm going to do what I want. One award called for listing 8 facts about myself and passing the award on to 8 bloggers. The other wanted 7 facts and 15 bloggers. In addition, Amy from Increasingly Domestic (Hi, Amy!!!) tagged me to list 15 random facts about myself quite a few weeks ago. So I'm going to average everything out, share 10 random facts about myself and just ask that you please check out Jackie, Jodi, Jen, and Amy's blogs. How's that? OK, good:)

Here we go...
  1. I hate spiders. I want nothing to do with them. If they all died, I'd be OK with that.
  2. I'll tell you my favorite movie is the Sound of Music, but given the choice between watching that and 10 Things I Hate About You, I'm going with Heath Ledger. Sorry Julie Andrews. I still love you, though.
  3. My favorite meal is beef stroganoff. Hold the mushrooms.
  4. I am the oldest of my parents' three children but my daughters are the youngest of their five grandchildren.
  5. I won a Ben and Jerry's Peace Pop for winning a contest to write our school song in eighth grade.
  6. I don't like pancakes. Or real maple syrup. Having been born and raised in Vermont, that's sacrilegious.
  7. As my husband and I walked out after our wedding ceremony, a harpist played Linus and Lucy (the Peanuts theme song).
  8. I am a major klutz.  I frequently run into the wall when I'm walking along. You can laugh. I'm used to it.
  9. I am always cold. My normal body temperature is 97 degrees.
  10. I don't eat anything that lives in the water. No fish, no seafood.
There you have it. More than you ever wanted to know about me!

Have a great weekend!

Hello 2011

Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. I always get a little sad taking down the Christmas decorations. The house just feels so much warmer and cozier at Christmastime. But the beginning of the new year brings its own excitement… the promise of a fresh start and new beginnings. As excited as I am for the new year, I am having some major motivation issues. I haven’t sewn or crafted in over a week. Anyone else in a creative funk? Luckily, I have some handmade Christmas gifts to show you while I work on getting myself back in the swing of things.

Remember my ambitious handmade Christmas gift list? Well, I didn’t get through much of it. In fact, the only thing from the list that I actually got around to was a handful of I Spy Bags for my niece, nephew, and family friends. I used this tutorial from Jess at Craftiness is not Optional. The bags I made are about 6 inches square, and instead of sewing a list of items to the back, I took a picture of the items before I put them in, printed it out, and sewed it on the back…

I found this adorable tutorial for an eyeglass case. I decided I had to make one for my mother…

I have a new found love of stamping on fabric. Don’t be surprised if you see me use it a lot for a while.

I made this cute little zipper pouch for my mother-in-law…

P1080491

I love the contrast of the linen and the dark cotton fabric. I’ve had those little buttons for about 15 years. I finally found a use for them.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my husband for a Christmas surprise. We don’t buy each other gifts for Christmas or birthdays, so you can imagine my surprise when I received this…

P1080495

He said that this was one time when there was something that I actually really wanted, but he knew I’d never be able to justify buying one for myself. What a guy, huh? I’m a lucky girl.

I am loving this camera. This is one of my favorite shots I’ve taken with it…

I still need to read the manual and figure out how to use all the bells and whistles, but it has actually been pretty user-friendly so far.

A few loose ends to tie up as we enter the new year. Way back before Thanksgiving I mentioned that I won a giveaway and was awaiting the arrival of my winnings from Australia. It was well worth the wait. I didn’t get around to showing you what I won until now…

My winnings came from Naturally Carol. The apron wasn’t even part of the giveaway… she knew the bunting would be hung in one of my girls’ rooms, so she made the apron just for me and sent it along! What a sweetheart! If you have not visited Carol, you must. Not only is she super talented with a sewing machine, she has really unique ideas. And one of the big reasons I read Carol’s blog is to hear about life on the other side of the planet. She’s a hoot!

Also, April over at Cup of Delight passed the Stylish Blogger Award on to me a while back, and I just wanted to thank her for the honor. Go check out her blog, especially her travel adventures.

And one last thing… I reached a milestone over the holidays. I now have over 300 followers. I am in shock and am so appreciative of the support and encouragement that I get from all of you. A giveaway is in the works. More to come. Now maybe I can get motivated enough to go sew myself a camera strap cover.

Some Blogkeeping

I can't believe tomorrow is Thanksgiving already! Where has November gone?! I have a few blogkeeping items I need to take care of, so I thought I'd do it today before I take a blog break for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

First of all, I received two blog awards recently. I was passed the One Lovely Blog Award by Glenys at Glenys Leeng. I was also passed the Stylish Blogger Award by Erica at B is for Boy! Thanks so much Glenys and Erica! I am really honored.

These awards come with strings attached. Both awards require you to pay it forward to 15 other bloggers that you have newly discovered. That's a grand total of thirty bloggers... Holy cannoli! With it being the holidays and all, time is at a premium for everyone (including me:). Therefore, I have decided that I'm not officially passing the award on to anyone (ladies, you're off the hook:), but I want to acknowledge a few blogs I have somewhat recently happened upon that I think you might like...

Please check out what these blogs have to offer. I continue to be amazed by the talented people I run across each and every day. And please go check out Glenys and Erica's blogs. You definitely will be glad you did!

In addition, the Stylish Blogger Award requires that you share seven things about yourself. I think I can handle that.
  1. I don't drink coffee. At all. I don't like it. I love the smell of it, and I like coffee flavored desserts, but I don't like the taste of straight up coffee.
  2. I drink Pepsi like it's my job.
  3. This was my first car, but mine was pea green...
  4.

  5. I love math. Really. Like calculus and trig and all that jazz.
  6. My favorite ice cream flavor is cookies and cream.
  7. I've been to 48 of the 50 states. I haven't been to Washington or Alaska. Yet.
  8. I watched the very last Bob Barker hosted Price is Right while lying in a hospital bed in labor with my oldest daughter.
Next item of business is these lovely earrings that I won from a giveaway over at just Lu.

Aren't they the cutest? Lorene did a great job making them... it's such a clever idea. She'll be over here next week with a guest post tutorial for Haul Out the Holly. I also won another giveaway just days ago, but I'll wait until I receive my goodies (all the way from Australia!) before I tell you about them.

Another item of business is the handmade label/tag tutorial I've been promising you. Unfortunately I didn't get to it before Thanksgiving. I'm going to work on it and have it ready for you as soon as Haul Out the Holly is over. Be looking for the tutorial around December 13th.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving! I'm taking a little blog break to enjoy some time with my family and to prepare for the big blog event that starts Monday. Can't wait!

What a Pleasant Surprise!

I received a blog award this weekend! The One Lovely Blog Award was passed to me (and four other bloggers) by Staci at Lizard & Ladybug (Thanks, Staci!). I’m thrilled!

One of the best parts of the One Lovely Blog award is that you get to pass it on! Here's how it works...
  1. Accept the award. Post in on your blog with the name of the person who has granted the award and his or her blog link.
  2. Pay it forward to 5 other bloggers that you have newly discovered.
  3. Contact those blog owners and let them know they've been chosen.
Here are my 5 choices for the One Lovely Blog Award:
These are some really talented ladies. Please take a moment to check out their blogs… you’ll be glad you did!
