Commit Thyself, MacGyver Style

Remember on Monday when I said that I was in a creative funk? Well, I’m still not motivated to get sewing, crafting, or anything else for that matter. I need to pull myself out of this, and I’m going to need the help of the man, the myth, the legend… MacGyver.

Have I gone completely crazy? Not to worry. There’s a perfectly good explanation for all of this. My friend Lorene over at just Lu is hosting a year-long new series called Housewife MacGyver, all about becoming more self-reliant by using resources wisely.

Housewife MacGyver

To kick things off, January is a challenge month following the first MacGyver commandment: COMMIT THYSELF… commit to something and then get it done. I have decided to commit to getting my sewing area organized so that I can just sit down and sew without having to remove a 10” pile of stuff from the table and the top of my sewing machine. I think the fact that I currently cannot see my machine is part of my lack of motivation to create. So, by the end of January, I am going to have a completely organized and clean sewing area, and it is going to stay that way! I can’t wait to get started on this project, because it actually means a change in the location of my sewing area (back to my closet), a little light carpentry, and a trip to IKEA. I hope this works out as well as I think it’s going to. Hopefully I’ll be showing you the finished product in a few weeks!

Housewife MacGyver is going to be a great series, and I’m so excited that Lorene asked me to be a part of it… I’m going to be guest posting a few times throughout the year, even using my engineering background for one post in particular. The Mac would be so proud!

Do you need to commit yourself to doing something? Have you already made a New Year’s resolution? Hop on over to Lorene’s blog and check it out because if MacGyver can’t motivate you, who can?

Thanks for posting this Gwen. I will head over there. I have committed to revamping my sewing space. I have a new sewing machine, but I am not opening the box until the space is complete!

Oh I need to check this out. I am in a creative funk too. I think it's because we still have Christmas stuff up which will all be put away this weekend. What that has to do with anything, I don't know but maybe it's because I have some creative toys still under the tree? Thanks for the link!

Oh, Gwen, I love it! You are a MacGyver sister for sure! "The man, the myth, the legend" still has me laughing :)

I'm excited to see your sewing space! Say hello to Ikea for me

You and me both! I was just telling my hubby that I have no desire to be creative lately. I need to get my butt in gear! Thanks for the inspiration!

Good luck----I think I just need to commit myself, period. I commit myself to doing something....next week, after I've done this workshop, this project, this meeting, this event....and it never gets done! On an upnote, one of my science teachers in high school was McGyver's half brother....yeah, they looked alike, too. Be still my heart!

I'm on the organizing/cleaning kick this month. But I get this way every January. Starting the year off fresh. :)

What a great challenge. I have so many unfinished projects and disorganization going on in my life right now! By the way, thanks for finding my blog and leaving such a nice comment!

You're so right. Having a pile of stuff in the way of getting something out always puts me off doing it.

My committing myself is to do with my camera. Guess what? I got it out yesterday and took my first shots. It feels like stepping into boots that are too big for me - what I mean is that the camera feels much to good for me at the moment....but my commitment is to grow into it.

I thought of you when I *finally* got it out of the box. Hope you're proud of me!!

Hi Gwen... I am afraid of going in my craft space right now... I might go missing under piles of fabric and scrapbook paper. Maybe I should start straightening it up but it feels like a BIG job ( -:

Thanks for the inspiration! So nice to hear someone else has to move stuff to get to a working area. I've been shifting from my work table to my cutting table and back for a couple of months, never leaving either clean in the process. January sounds a perfect month to organize!
