Scrap Jar Stars Doll Quilt

One of the gifts that I made for my two year old for her birthday was a doll quilt. I had a really hard time deciding what pattern to go with. I ended up choosing the Scrap Jar Stars block from A Little Bit Biased because a) I love this block and b) I will never have the patience to make enough of these blocks to create a large quilt from this pattern. Here's the finished quilt...

Of course I went the way of ROY G BIV :) I had a hard time selecting the right pink, but I think the one I chose works pretty well. The quilt is about 17.5" square.

The back is a single fabric multicolored polka dot print...

To label the quilt I just used a fabric pen to write a little something in four of the polka dots...

So here's the kicker... my daughter couldn't care less about this quilt. It bothers me a little, but I kind of expected it... she's two. One day she may surprise me and start playing with it :) But it doesn't matter... I love it!

I'm linking up over at {Sew} Modern Monday at Canoe Ridge Creations and Fabric Tuesday at Quilt Story.

I'm also entering the Modern Mini Challenge at Ellison Lane Quilts.

Gwen, you did a GREAT job on that doll quilt. Your choice of colors was perfect....nice and bright for a child. If your daughter doesn't play with it right now, you could possibly use it as dresser scarf on a chest of drawers in her bedroom. Or, if she doesn't have a dresser just hang it in her room. I'm sure one day very soon she will appreciate it and cuddle her dolly with it.

Thanks for sharing this picture with me, Gwen. I think it is so cute and I like your use of solids.
Great backing too. I am a sucker for polka dots.

Happy Quilting!

It's a darling quilt. And if she doesn't ever play with it- perhaps she'll have a daughter one day who will. :) (now that just aged us a TON didn't it- sorry :( ) ;)

It looks beautiful! My oldest didn't mother her dolls much...but my youngest does. I bet your daughter will play with it more during the next year. Between 2 and 3 they really start doing more pretend play. My youngest is getting a doll quilt for her birthday next month, so we'll see how it's received. This will make a great little decoration for her room too.

It's adorable Gwen! My daughter didn't use hers much until she was closer to 3 but now it gets used a lot.
PS: I love the back fabric- such cute dots!

Very cute. Love the backing. Your daughter might just need time to get used to it. You know how 2yr olds do things when they want, not when you want!! I wouldn't be surprised if the quilt stays around where she can see it that she will start using it!

Beautiful doll quilt. She's just a baby, she'll love it some day. If she doesn't play with it, you just display it in your house!! Do you mind if I ask who makes the polka dot fabric and where you got it?

Gwen it is wonderful. I made so many things for my girls and when I take that for granted, they pop up with a memory of a doll dress, a homemade Care Bear or a favorite dress. She will come to love that quilt and as it will be familiar that is all the better. It is so fun to sew for our children and now I can do so for my grandchildren. It is wonderful to share your talent with gifts.

It's beautiful! Love the dots! My daughter is 2 and didn't like hers either but now it has to go on her bed every night (when it's not being dragged around!!)

I saw your link on QuiltStory. Great colors, and a doll quilt is a great way to enjoy a block you don't want to make 20 times:). Your daughter's little quilt will only get better with use and washings. I love your use of solids - so cute!

@Nana - The polka dot fabric is from the Isadora Phoenix line "Woodstock" for Benartex. I got mine at a fabric shop in Rhode Island (http://www.rycotrim.com/). Hope that helps :)
